What We've Been Up To...

Some pics of what we've been up to around here...

Wearing some camo like Daddy.
Deep thoughts by Harrison.

Life is hard taking naps.

We waved good-bye to Oprah last week.

What I like to call... Milk Wasted.

Field Trips

We've flown the coop, folks.  No more house arrest for this Mommy and her Little Man.  Once we got the all clear, we started lining up the lunch dates!

Our first field trip was last Monday.... to CVS.  Not exactly fun nor fabulous, but they were having an amazing Huggie's Wipes sale, ok?  The frugality in me won out, especially since I had ExtraBucks, a Gift Card, and coupons.  Where's the TLC film crew?

However, my ambition was grinded to a halt upon arriving at CVS and I could not figure out how to get Mr. Harrison's baby seat out of the car seat base.  "I'm a smart person.  I have a Master's degree.  I can do this."  The mantra did not work.... after almost 20 minutes (admittingly)... and I had to call Mr. Smith, who thought the whole thing was hilarious.  There may or may not have been a couple of tears (I blame the post-pregnancy hormones.)

Now, we are victorious and Tour de Baby was in full swing the rest of the week.  Lunch with Aunt MK, our second pediatrician's visit, and lunch with co-workers rounded out our week.  Today we've been to the photographer's to design our birth announcement and review his photos - OMG, will share later! - and then to lunch with Aunt Anna.

Baby Harrison is a traveling champ!  Easily falls asleep in car seat and can be soothed by a lovely bottle if fussiness commences.  Next stop:  lunch with Daddy!

Watch out!  We may be coming to a town near you!

One Month Today!

Dear Harrison,

Today you are one month old!  Time has flown by so quickly!

You currently weigh 7 pounds, 13.5 ounces and are 20 3/4 inches in length. The pediatrician gave you an A+ this week at your visit... already an "A" student!

You are still in Size Newborn clothing, but have graduated to Size 1 diapers.  There's a good chance you'll be in Size 0-3 month clothing sometime next week, the way you're growing!

Your current hobbies are eating at least every 2 hours and snuggling.  You are an excellent snuggle buddy!  We think your favorite spot is snuggled up on either Mom or Dad's chest.  You absolutely hate to be put down and not have any attention on you.

You have recently started grasping and holding on with your hands and focusing on our faces, which is heartwarming.  You also love to give "Harrison Kisses" to Mom and Dad!

You're also starting to warm up to baths, but still HATE diaper changes.  That is the only time you cry - when we change your diaper or if you're just really hungry.

Happy One Month!  We love you!

Making the Rounds...

Making the rounds...

Sweet Dee Mooty stopped by to snuggle...

On Saturday we ventured to T-town and met Grandma Nancy...

And Grandpa Charlie.
Four generations of Smith men... good looking group, right?

And Aunt MK and Uncle Teddy stopped by for a minute to say hi, which Harrison woke up for.
He loves his Aunt MK!
(Get busy Bakers... Harrison needs a playmate!)

Then Liz needed some snuggle time as well!

3 Weeks

Has it really been 3 weeks since our little one arrived?  It seems like both just yesterday and eons ago, simultaneously.  True, it's been a roller coaster ride these past 3 weeks, but wowzers.

Here are some life lessons learned in just 3 short weeks... pertaining to mommyhood.

1.  It is humbling and miraculous how God designs the Mother's body.  I'm not just talking about labor and delivery, but the ability to run on 1.5-2 hour shifts of sleep, awaken at the sound of irregular breathing, know how to comfort, breastfeed... the list could go on and on.

2.  Let's talk about breastfeeding.  Wow.  What an experience.  Not painful, but not a day at the spa by any stretch of the imagination.  However, what a blessing.  Both to the precious babe and to mommy.  I do, sometimes, feel like a dairy factory, because these ladies are very ambitious in their duty.  Very.  Which is good, because the precious babe likes to eat.  A lot.  I don't know where he gets that from.

3.  Pumping.  Just started this two days ago.  Once again, not painful, but very reminiscent of being a dairy factory.  Just call me Daisy or Betsy.  But, to see Mr. Smith give Harrison his first bottle two nights ago... well worth it.

4.  I have glowing reviews of Tummy Butter.  I have no stretch marks, and am pretty much back in pre-baby clothes.  (Besides the ladies of course, which are quite fabulous looking right now.  See #2 and #3 for reasoning.)  I cannot get over how fast you drop the weight.  Cankles no more!

5.  While we all remember the diaper hoarding, I am pleased to share that we were able to give away a lot of diapers, tolietries, and other baby stuff to the storm victims in Tuscaloosa last weekend.  Thank you couponing!  It did me good to be able to do something, not just sit idle.

6. Vanity. Kiss it good-bye. I now wear eau de baby - a winning combo of baby lotion and milk.  And maybe some spit-up.  It's all about survival, people.

Gotta go... H is hungry.

Wordless Wednesday - Blessed Grandparents

You'd never know that these grandparents lost their house a week ago, right?
Look at those smiles!  Nothing some grand-baby love cannot fix for a little bit!

Such a Comic Already...

Harrison had his first pediatrician's visit last week.

I snapped a picture of his feelings to Mommy and Daddy after the visit was over.

I swear we are not teaching him these manners!

Yesterday I caught somebody sucking their thumb....

... who then thought it was really funny when Mommy started documenting the "milestone."
